The 6 volume comic series depicting the life of Scott Pilgrim and his girlfriend Ramona Flowers is coming to the big screen starring Michael Cera (Superbad, Year One) as Scott, and Mary Elizabeth Winstead (Sky High, Factory Girl) as Ramona. This Movie will be directed by Edgar Wright (Hot Fuzz, Shaun of the Dead) and releases into theaters on August 13, 2010.
Scott Pilgrim: Plot
The story of Scott Pilgrim is a little bit fantastical. If movie-goers have read the graphic novel series they will know mostly what is in store for them. The story of Scott Pilgrim is divided into 6 parts: Scott Pilgrim's Precious Little Life, Scott Pilgrim V.s. the World, Scott Pilgrim and the Infinite Sadness, Scott Pilgrim Gets it Together, Scott Pilgrim V.s. the Universe, and Scott Pilgrim's Finest Hour.
In the first book, readers meet Scott, a 23 year-old slacker who plays in a band called the Sex Bob-Ombs with his friends Kim Pine and Stephen Stills who will be played by Alison Pill(Milk, The Awakening of Abigail Harris) and Mark Webber(Shrink, The Memory Theif). He is initially dating Knives Chau who will be portrayed by Ellen Wong (This is Wonderland, Runaway). That is, until he has a dream about and then subsequently meets Ramona.
When Scott starts seeing Ramona, Scott receives an email and a letter, that he skims, that would tell him that he has to defeat Ramona's 7 evil exes before they can date. He finally learns this fact, when the sender of the letters Matthew Patel, portrayed by Satya Bhabha (Fair Game, Swordswallowers and Thin Men), confronts Scott at a gig.
The other 5 books each detail another evil ex, or in the case of the Katayanagi twins Ken and Kyle, Shota Saitou (Feel the Wind, Touch) and Keita Saitou (Feel the Wind, Touch), two evil exes battle with the hero Scott.
Other exes include:Todd Ingram played by Brandon Routh (Superman Returns, Stuntmen), Lucas Lee portrayed by Chris Evans (Fantastic Four, Street Kings),Roxy Richter who is played by Mae Whitman (Spring Breakdown, Acceptance), and the leader of the evil league of evil exes is Gideon Gordon Graves played by Jason Schwartzman (Slackers, Just Like Mona).
Scott Pilgrim: Graphic Novel to Movie
In the past there have been movies that have been made from books and that fall way short of where they should be. This is mostly due to stuff being left out. Take a look at the classic film To Kill a Mocking Bird. This movie is great, but it had to leave out a lot of content to fit into the 128 minutes that it runs. Scott Pilgrim is slated to run 112 minutes and the graphic novel is 6 volumes long. Either the movie will have a sequel, or the producers will have to cut out a lot of the parts that fanboys and fanatical fans of the series will miss dearly.
